π Work, Education & Economy
πΆ Economyβ
Locality of Tradeβ
As the world cannot be easily globalized due to the difficulty of travel and communication, most trade happens locally. Goods and services are usually traded within a province or it's neighbors, with rare or specialized wares making it across multiple provinces' borders.
πͺ The universal currency - Araβ
Despite this locality, most of the civilized part of Nuak has agreed to the Ara as its currency, to help with trade. The smallest unit is 1 Ara. There are no fractional Ara. Comparing it to real-world currencies, 10 Ara equal in buying power to approximately 1 Euro or Dollar.
Its icon is a capitalized "A" with two middle lines instead of one, extending beyond the edges:
Low values up to 100 Ara are represented with coins cut from a special blend of low power Flux Crystals. Bigger values are cut as cards and are specially dotted in an attempt to prevent forgery.
π Educationβ
In Nuak, education is split into two parts: School and Guilds.
Schoolβ
Once a child reaches a certain amount of maturity to start their education, which depends slightly on the species, they are usually send to school. They are free to attend, as schools are managed and funded by the local Nonagon.
Children spend the next 6 years learning all the basics: Reading, writing, math, history, geography, science and of course Fluxmancing. After that, they will have to make choice on what they will want to do in their life
Guildsβ
Guilds often represent the next step in education and are also the entrance into the work life.
There are many different guilds, each focusing on a different part of the work life. Most guilds will teach some more basics, like weapon handling, basic survival skills, and a foundation in airship piloting. However, the main parts strongly depends on their chosen guild.
Some example guilds include:
- Adventurer Guild - Teaches exploration, survival, combat and treasure hunting.
- Merchant Guild - Teaches trading, negotiation, appraisal and business skills.
- Fluxtek Guild - Teaches engineering, crafting, tinkering and invention.
- Science Guild - Teaches research, experimentation, analysis and discovery.
- Artisan Guild - Teaches art, music, performance and creativity. ... and many more.
Guilds are self-managed entities and usually reach across one or multiple provinces. They are funded partially by the Nonagon, but mostly by their clients and members. Attending a guild is often cheap or even free, but also requires you to complete a certain amount of work for the guild. Guilds provide multiple services and goods to clients, which is how they fund themselves. These client projects are then fulfilled by their attendees under the guidance of a guild master.
In a way, guilds are not just educational institutions, but also work places.
