πŸŒ€ Introduction

Our world is filled to the brim with a magical energy called Flux.

It flows into every corner of the universe, takes on complex forms and structures, and seemingly emerges from nature itself. By manipulating these streams, one can use that energy for everything, from daily chores like cooking and lighting, to powerful magic spells and autonomous magitek robots.

Flux comes in 6 different types:

  • πŸ”₯ Ivris - Fire
  • πŸ’§ Wava - Water
  • ⚑ Voltik - Lightning
  • 🌱 Fenil - Earth
  • πŸŒ‘ Nirum - Darkness
  • 🌟 Lumir - Light

However, these common Flux, are balanced out by πŸŒ€ Exium, the Anti-Flux, the essence of pure chaos. Unpredictable and uncontrollable.

In this alternative timeline, humanity discovered Flux in the near future. It quickly replaced most other energy forms and was hoped to solve the ever-growing energy crisis once and for all. Unfortunately, this thinking would soon be humanities demise. In their greed and ignorance they attempted to control Exium, and use it to produce common Flux. This brought instability upon the great balance. A dramatic self-correction by nature followed, in which Earth collapsed into itself, while a devastating shockwave wiped out nearly all of life.

The ruins of this event was called Nuak, the fractured Earth. With thousands of floating islands, ranging in size from as small as a bush to gigantic as a mountain, lifted into the sky by gigantic Flux crystals. And the Nukleus, a magical chaotic black hole, acting as center point for all the islands to drift over, still spewing Exium out in random directions.

After millions of years, the flora and fauna recovered and grew with fantastical variation. New humanoid races emerged and colonized the planet. We're currently in the middle of the Fluxtek Revolution. Still somewhat primitive to human technology, but expanding quickly all over the world.

The temperamental eruptions of the Nukleus, as well as the remnants of the calamity, plague the people to this day. Adventurers, from all across the globe, are in a constant battle against the ever-emerging threats. Sometimes a giant golem appears, who is searching for his lost love, another time it's raining candy canes and snakes, and some other time a light-distorting hundreds-of-meters-tall deciduous tree grows inside the center square of a metropolis, which drains the life energy out of everything its winding roots touch…

Welcome to the world of Fluxterra.

πŸ–ΌοΈ Cultural Overview

The world of Fluxterra can be imagined as a mix of classic Fantasy, with Magitek as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and a good handful the wackiness and over-the-top-ness of Kirby or A Hat in Time.

The general culture of the world, clothing, architecture and art, is similar to what one would expect from a fantasy world. However, Flux-powered "magic" is in the center of modern life and technologically it's way more advanced with stone robots, seemingly ancient versions of high-tech tablets, and energetically glowing shotguns, but also very primitive in some regards.

πŸ’œ Sources of Evil

While there generally is peace on the world, with no big war going on, that doesn't mean there are no conflicts. One of the biggest problems is still Exium, causing all kinds of troubles, especially after the sudden outbursts. This can range from a wood shortage because of an Exium Sprit turning all trees into sugarcanes to a twelve-meter-tall violet-glowing wolf rampaging in a city. This is also what adventurers mostly do. Prevent disasters and solve Exium related problems.

Of course, we still have ruins from the Human Era. These often hold treasures still unknown to Anthrokind. Additionally, the world is inhabited by gigantic creatures called Titans, who sometimes cause trouble.

🎈 Closure

In the end, Fluxterra was created as an excuse to get away from the classical fantasy worlds. While D&D, Lord of the Rings, and co. are great, always having similar races, cultures, worlds, topics, and so on in many different medias can become rather exhausting for some people, like the author of Fluxterra.

So Fluxterra is trying to provide a unique new fantasy world. Nothing here should be considered final, but rather as a starting point for a new universe.
