🌌 Overview​

Flux is a magic-like physical substance in the Fluxverse. It's based on special particles and their arrangements controls its appearance and behavior. It's easiest to imagine Flux as a gas or fluid flowing through space.

People can use Flux to create magical effects. This is called Fluxmancing. With precise hand movements and a well concentrated mind, one can manipulate the structure of Flux streams to cause diverse reactions.

History​

As with everything basic in the universe, Flux was created with the Big Bang.

While its effects were always present, humanity failed to notice them for quite a while and dismissed them. This is most likely due to Flux not really doing a lot in its natural form.

However, once discovered it changed life drastically. Humans were the first to explore Flux. They started using it for many different parts of life, but eventually it also indirectly caused the extinction of the human race and the Fracturing.

It was later rediscovered by the current dominating species, collectively known as the Anthrokind. It's used in daily life and most people know at least some basic Fluxmancing. Fires are started using Ivris. Lights work with Lumir. Fenil & Wava is used for medicine. Voltik generates propulsion for vehicles. Nirum can boost creativity and inventive genius.

Later on, it was observed that Flux crystals can directly manipulate the flow of streams as well. This simple mechanic is the base for the resulting Fluxtech inventions. Everything from light switches to simple robots.

Types of Flux​

Flux is classified into 6 different types and an additional Anti-Flux. Each of them with different properties and nature. In layman's terms, they are often grouped into 3 categories, the Elemental Fluxes, the Balance Fluxes, and the Chaos Flux. Additionally, they can be separated in stable and unstable. This is indicative of their stability in structures, not of the Flux itself.

The Fire Flux, Elemental, Unstable

Ivris originates from hot materials and from flames themselves. Volcanos are often a number one source. Working with Ivris seems like controlling flames. It blazes through the air as red-orange lines and ember-like particles. Usages include setting things ablaze, heating, basic light generation, and destruction in general.

The Water Flux, Elemental, Stable

Wava is commonly found near bodies of water or in moist regions. When controlling the flow, it feels like trying to control a stream of water flowing through the air. Similarly, it looks like blue and white lines flowing through the air. It's mainly used for liquid-related actions but can also be used curatively and for creating shielding.

⚑ Voltik​

The Lighting Flux, Elemental, Unstable

Voltik resembles lightnings and electrical currents. It's mainly encountered in yellow, or blue and looks like magical bolts. Main sources include thunderstorms, clouds, electrical power sources, and tension in general. It is often used for speed related actions due to its incredible velocity. Additionally, it can induce electricity and arc energy between places.

🌱 Fenil​

The Organic Flux, Elemental, Stable

Fenil appears to be strongly related to organic and especially plant matter. Furthermore, it is often related with cold temperatures. The biggest source are overgrown areas rich in flora. Its appearance is best described as green vines elegantly growingly through space with the occasional bloom, sometimes solidifying into brownish dirt-like clumps. It is especially useful for healing organisms, but can also be used to easily constrict movement, or pack a powerful punch.

The Dark Flux, Balance, Unstable

Nirum can't be directly related to nature. It represents more a general idea. The idea of darkness, impurity, creativity, and dreams. It appears where these ideas are embodied in the real world. This includes, dark areas, the night sky, creative thinking, or near dreaming people. It also can be used to persuade reality to bend to these ideas. It looks like black or dark multi-colored cosmic structures or nebulae. Also, it seems to be related to Lumir and interacts harmonically.

🌟 Lumir​

The Light Flux, Balance, Stable

Lumir represents a general idea. The idea of light, purity, truth, and reality. It also seems to appear where these ideas are represented in the real world. This includes things like, light sources, clean environments, or even museums. On the same vein, it is also used to induce these same ideas into the physical world. It looks like white or pale multi-colored cosmic structures or nebulae. It also seems to be related to Nirum in a special way as they interact in harmonically.

The Chaos Flux

Exium is pure chaos in form of Flux and often described as the Anti-Flux or Chaos Flux. Little is actually understood about it. It seems to originate from the lack of normal Flux types. It appears like a chaotic mess of lines and shapes darkening and inverting colors from around it, it often takes the appearance of purple, red and green. Its behavior is unclear and controlling it is nearly impossible. It cannot really be used for Fluxmancing as it's unstable and forms structures on its own in an anarchic matter. Its sole presence can mess with all kinds of things and produce turbulent situations and often very dangerous ones.

Sources​

Flux originates mysteriously from the physical representations of the concepts they represent. This usually means nature is the common source of Flux.

For example, Ivris, likes to emerge from the heat of fires. Fenil, from growing plants. Wava, from rushing rivers. And so on.

Forms​

Flux can be encountered in different forms, similar to phases of matter.

Ambient​

Flux is most commonly found in ambient form. By far most Flux in the universe is in this form.

Its freely moving particles, act like a liquid or gas flowing through space. It's partially non-interacting with matter, meaning it can pass through matter. Flux in this form is usually invisible. It only takes shape and color in higher concentrations, like in extreme natural conditions or in concords.

This form is the easiest to fluxmance and Flux near always emerges in this form.

Crystalline​

The second most common form. Here the particles have solidified and formed a crystalline structure. It's created either by concentrations settling or by force compressing Flux.

The Flux takes on a mostly opaque colors, slightly glowing, slightly shiny. It also becomes fully solid and cannot pass through matter.

Flux in this form is very stable and fairly dense. It's most commonly used to store Flux.

Inky​

A very rare and extreme form of Flux. Usually only created in the most extreme events or by the divines. The Flux particles have been supersaturated with agitation energy, making them incredibly stable, but also immensely reactive when hit with the right triggers.

In this form, Flux is a slightly gooey liquid. It's fully opaque, swirling in brilliant colors. It coats, splashes, and oozes when interacted with, left alone it forms puddles.

This is usually used by the primal divines to shape the universe. Or it can simply be pretty paint when not incredibly concentrated.

Emergent / Souls​

When a lot of Flux clumps together in just the right way, it can form a pure fluxical contraption showing emergent behavior. This form is commonly known as a "Soul".

Souls form the living part of the universe. Every conscious living thinking self-aware creature has a soul. Even the divine are just really really powerful souls. For mortals these souls usually are connected to some physical body they inhabit as the would be to weak to hold together on their own.

As Flux does not really interact with matter, Souls are what enable living beings to fluxmance.

Fluxmancing​

The act of manipulating the natural flow of Flux is called "Fluxmancing".

Normally, Flux emerges from physical objects relating to the concept of the respective Flux Type. Meaning, Fires produces Ivris, Rivers accrue Wava and so on. This Flux exists for a while, until it disappears again spontaneously. This mostly prevents huge concentrations of Flux and natural interactions are more on the rare side.

However, once a Soul, which is basically a conscious bundle of Flux, starts interacting with the Flux, magic starts to happen.

Flux Interactions​

Different types of Flux don't just ignore each other. Combining Flux types while Fluxmancing is important and can create more complex arrangements. Additionally, some Flux types are effective or weak against other types during conflict.

Fluxtech​

Technological advancements were established using Flux. Instead of using standard physics and electronics, people in modern Fluxterra use Flux based mechanics to create machines and devices. Basically, it depends on the same premise as Fluxmancing, just in a compact and automated fashion. This often involves small Flux Crystals sending impulses and forcing structures by exciting them.

Some of the earliest Fluxtech machines were lightbulbs. Instead the use of candles or Ivris/Lumir crystals, people could turn the light on or off whenever they wanted. Today, society has evolved it further to use in all kinds of devices. However, Fluxtech isn't as advanced as our world. While there is quite a lot it can do, that aren't possible in the real world, the processing power is still fairly low. In general technology hasn't been as greatly adapted by society as in our world. Some examples further of Fluxtech devices include ovens, gliders, firearms, disrupters, airships, and small drones.

This section of science tries to explain the complex effects Flux can create. In the greater scheme of things, only very little is understood in how Flux actually works. Also, the following information isn't fully necessary to understand the world of Fluxterra but can deepen the mental image of Flux.

The Flux Particles​

Flux seems to consist of 3 different elementary particles and their respective anti-particles. These so-called Fluxtrons build the base for all types of Flux and define the effects between themselves and other particles.

An oddity about Fluxtrons is their origin. They seem to randomly appear in places with living or natural matter. The reason for this is unknown as there seems to be no direct interaction making this happen.

Seemingly due to this reason, Anti-Fluxtrons appear when there are no Fluxtrons near. In the grand scheme it is suggested that Fluxtrons and Anti-Fluxtrons want to create a balance. However, Fluxtrons and Anti-Fluxtrons repel each other, but when touched annihilate each other.

Also, Fluxtrons exist simultaneously in the Stellar & Hyper Plane. They are not two linked particles, but just a single particle existing in both planes.

Dualities​

Fluxtrons always build dualities. Kind of like quarks create hadrons, or atoms make up molecules. They seem to never appear on their own. Trying to separate dualities only creates more dualities. The energy required to separate them is used to create a new pair of Fluxtrons.

The type of Fluxtrons in a duality defines which of the Flux types it belongs to. This also defines the behavior of the dualities.

These types are also categorized in two categories:

  • Balance
    • Whether the overall sum of polities equals zero.
  • Volatility
    • Whether the polarities are negative.

Similar to Fluxtrons themselves appearing near natural sources, the types of dualities that are created appears to correlate to the type of natural source. For example, water promotes Wava and fire catalyzes Ivris. Again, this has been observed, but so far can't be fully explained.

Anti-Fluxtrons also bond into dualities, but always create Exium type Flux. The reason for this is still unknown. It's likely that there are different sub-types of Exium, but they cannot be differentiated due to the fully chaotic behavior of these anti-dualities.

Streams & Concentration​

Dualities like to clump together and create continuous streams of the same Flux type. Due to the different behaviors of each type, these streams look, flow, and handle differently. This natural form is called the Natural Stream Arrangement.

Flux is everywhere in the universe, but not in the same concentration. The higher the concentration of Flux, meaning the more dualities are in a certain space, the more visible, active, and effective Flux becomes. The trick to make Flux work best, is to find a way to concentrate it. This is usually done with moving other streams of Flux and "squeezing" them together.

Structures​

These are what makes Flux work the way it works. It creates the "magic". Creating structures with dualities creates effects on themselves and other particles. By manipulating the flow and forcing them into unnatural structures, it's possible to create a wild variety of reactions. Generally, works as Flux Particles are mirrored into the Hyper Plane. It's as if you manipulate the foundation of the Stellar Plane's existance directly.

One of the best-known structures is the Crystal Arrangement. It's also the most commonly found in nature, besides the natural stream arrangement. Dualities fixate themselves to other ones and build a solid crystal-like matter.

Other examples for structures include the Blaze Arrangement for igniting objects, or the Contraction Arrangement for shrinking distances.

While most structures generally work with all Flux types, many work much better in combination with certain types. As example the Blaze Arrangement is much easier to create with Ivris than any other. This is called a cooperative type.

When working with structures, one should be careful to not accidentally create a different structure than intended, especially when using uncooperative types.
